Regional estimation of soil properties from local observations
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper presents four diierent approaches for estimating the average value of a soil property over a region, say a province, from point data: 1) arithmetic average, 2) declustered mean, 3) block kriging, and 4) stochastic simulation. The last two techniques are based on geostatistics which allows one to account for the pattern of spatial dependence of observations while providing a measure of the uncertainty attached to the estimate. The diierent techniques are illustrated using an environmental data set related to heavy metal contamination of a 14.5 km 2 area in the Swiss Jura

Iranian Permanent GPS Network Receivers Differential Code Biases Estimation Using Global Ionospheric Maps
Measurements of the dual frequency Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers can be used to calculate the electron density and the total electron content (TEC) of the ionosphere layer of the Earth atmosphere. TEC is a key parameter for investigating the ongoing spatial and temporal physical process of the ionosphere. For accurate estimation of TEC from GPS measurements, GPS satellites and GPS r...
متن کاملBanded vegetation in some Australian semi-arid landscapes: 20 years of field observations to support the development and evaluation of numerical models of vegetation pattern evolution
Periodic vegetation patterns (PVPs) are striking features of many global drylands. Although they have attracted wide research study, resulting in many hypotheses, their origin and controlling factors remain unresolved. Theoretical works dominate a large literature seeking to account for the occurrence and properties of PVPs, especially banded vegetation patterns (‘tiger bush’). In light of...
متن کاملTowards soil property retrieval from space: Proof of concept using in situ observations
Soil moisture is a key variable that controls the exchange of water and energy fluxes between the land surface and the atmosphere. However, the temporal evolution of soil moisture is neither easy to measure nor monitor at large scales because of its high spatial variability. This is mainly a result of the local variation in soil properties and vegetation cover. Thus, land surface models are nor...

Seismic waves are filtered as they pass through soil layers, from bedrock to surface. Frequencies and amplitudes of the response wave are affected due to this filtration effect and this will result in different ground motion characteristics. Therefore, it is important to consider the impact of the soil properties on the evaluation of earthquake ground motions for the design of structures. Soil ...
